Cephalogram Lateral

The lateral cephalogram is another useful assessment tool in dental imaging. This is an x-ray that produces a side view of the head that can reveal important details about the teeth and jaw.
The lateral cephalogram depicts the structure of the face, bone, and soft tissue. These images can be used by your radiologist or dentist to study the relationship of your teeth to your jaw, assess problems with alignment or growth patterns, and plan treatment.
The best tool for determining jaw alignment is the lateral cephalogram. If you have an overbite or underbite, for example, these images will provide more detail and allow your practitioner to develop the best approach for your needs.
In children, this x-ray is commonly used to predict tooth and jaw growth patterns. Adults can also use the lateral cephalogram to study changes caused by treatment or to track other issues.
If you work with an orthodontist, you may be given a lateral cephalogram in addition to the OPG. This x-ray is helpful in tracking treatment progress

What happen during Lateral Cephalogram?

A lateral cephalogram should last approximately 15-20 minutes. This scan is frequently provided in conjunction with the OPG. You must remove all jewellery and metallics from your head and neck. You'll be asked to keep your teeth together and lean your forehead against a steadying implement for your lateral ceph. The x-ray will take only a few seconds to complete.
